Fact-Checking in the EU

Press Releases

27-28 September, Parliament hosted a conference for fact-checking organisations ahead of the upcoming EU elections.

Next year’s European elections may be a watershed, taking place at a time when the European Union faces unprecedented challenges both at home and abroad - the impact of the migration crisis, rising insecurity and the departure of one of its members.

Across the world, parliamentary democratic institutions and politicians face declining trust amidst technological changes which have profoundly changed the information landscape.

In this volatile environment and with the European elections approaching fast, the European Parliament organizes a conference to bring together fact-checkers from across the EU and offer them an opportunity to exchange experiences, ideas and expertise.

The conference was organised by the European Parliament Spokesperson’s unit together with the European Commission’s DG CONNECT.
